The Stella Lux Car |
The team of 21 students under the name Solar Team Eindhoven (STE) who are students of different faculties of the Technological University of Eindhoven (Eindhoven University of Technology, TU/e), Netherlands, created another version of their family car that runs exclusively on solar energy. At its creation took a year and a half, but as a result of these efforts is really "the car of the future", highly efficient, intelligent and comfortable. Later this year the car Stella Lux will take part in the race cars on solar energy World Solar Challenge to be held in Australia.
In 2013, the STE team has finished work on the predecessor of the car, Stella Lux, who was known under the name of Stella, and who was the winner of the competition of the same year, the World Solar Challenge in the Cruiser class Class. Previous development was the demonstration of the possibility of establishing a family car on solar energy, and the current development shows that this car can be easy to manage, comfortable and attractive.

The energy in the car Stella Lux is produced by solar panels with a total area of 5.8 square meters, and the excess generated energy to charge the rechargeable battery, capacity 15 kW/h. When fully charged batteries recharged by the energy generated by the solar battery, the Stella Lux car can pass a distance of 1000 kilometers in the Netherlands and 1,100 kilometers in Australia, where the Sun shines hotter and the sun's rays bear more energy. The maximum speed that can develop the car, Stella Lux, is 125 kilometers per hour, which is very, very bad.
In order to have such impressive features, the Stella Lux car is made as light as possible and aerodynamic. Its design is widely used aluminum and carbon fiber, whereby the weight of the vehicle without passengers is only 375 pounds. To provide additional aerodynamic stability at a low weight the car has a air tunnel and extending to the rear of the flat roof acting as an additional stabilizer.

The efficiency of the car Stella Lux improved through the use of many innovative solutions, including navigation and a system that monitors weather conditions and selects the optimal route, taking into account not only distance, but also the amount of solar energy that will get the car when driving on a particular route. The intelligent control system is able to open the locks of the car when he is approached by an owner, in whose pocket is a smartphone with a special app. The navigation system learns the typical routes and allows the driver to use these data again, on the car dashboard is the touch screen with reverse tactile communication, allowing you to use it, never taking his eyes from the road.

The car Stella Lux will take part in the solar race, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in the Cruiser class the Class which will be held in Australia in October this year. The race starts in Darwin and ends in Adelaide, her total distance is 3 thousand kilometers.
